Competitor research
Domain snapshots, unified competitors, topical whitespace, page gap, and Search Truth vs Search Console.
You need a real rival set, not only the brands you already assume you compete with. Competitor research profiles a domain's estimated traffic, ranking keywords, top pages, backlinks, and AI Overview citations so you can size the footprint from data.
It does not stop at a snapshot. EZ SEOS unifies competitors across rank, GEO/Visibility, keyword overlap, and link-gap style signals, finds topical whitespace and page-level keyword gaps, and offers Search Truth when third-party estimates disagree with Google Search Console. This page is how domain intelligence works. Deep Search Truth how-to lives at Search Truth (/docs/search-truth).

What you can do
| Capability | What it is |
|---|---|
| Full domain snapshot | Estimated traffic, keywords, top pages, backlinks, AI Overview citations |
| Ranked keywords | Terms with ranking URL; brand exclude; subdomains toggle |
| Top pages | Pages by estimated traffic |
| Domain keyword suggestions | Suggestion path the agent can use when you need terms around a domain |
| Unified competitors | One rival set from SERP rank rivals, Visibility rivals, keyword overlap, and link-gap signals |
| Seed-based discovery | Find competitors from seeds when you do not already know the full list |
| Topical whitespace | Topics or categories a rival covers that you do not |
| Page gap | Keywords one page set wins that another does not |
| Search Truth | Estimates vs Search Console (GSC required for the GSC side) |
| Cannibalization | Mentions and handoff into Search Truth docs when your own URLs compete |
| Footprint history + alerts | Domain footprint history and alert paths for change over time |
Domain keyword suggestions are for term lists around a domain (including through the agent). Footprint history and alerts are for change over time, not only a one-time snapshot.
What the domain snapshot shows
| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Estimated traffic | Directional organic traffic estimate for the domain |
| Ranking keywords | Keywords the domain appears to rank for, with ranking URL context |
| Top pages | Pages that appear to carry the most estimated traffic |
| Backlinks | Link profile context for the domain |
| AI Overview citations | Where the domain shows up in AI Overview style citation context |
| Estimated traffic value | Ad-equivalent value estimate (not a bank balance) |
Treat estimates as estimates. When you need your own property's ground truth, connect Search Console and use Search Truth.
Unified competitors
Unified competitors builds one list from rank SERP rivals, Visibility rivals, keyword overlap, and link-gap signals, plus seed-based discovery when you need to find who shows up from a starting term or domain.
That list is the shortlist for whitespace, page gap, and link gap work.
Topical whitespace and page gap
Topical whitespace is categories or topics a rival covers that you do not. It is a content map problem: whole themes missing from your site while they rank into them.
Page gap is more surgical. It is keywords one page set wins that another does not, so you can see URL-level holes instead of only domain-level averages.
Use whitespace for roadmap conversations. Use page gap when you already know the topic and need the missing URL or the missing angle on a page you already have. Keyword research still helps when you need volume and difficulty on the terms you pull: keyword research (/docs/keyword-research). Link angle: backlinks (/docs/backlinks).
Search Truth (teaser)
Third-party estimates and Google Search Console often disagree. Different windows, sampling, brand filters, and model assumptions will do that. Search Truth is the place to put estimates next to GSC so you stop arguing from two disconnected dashboards.
GSC has to be connected for the Search Console side. Full how-to, including cannibalization-related diagnosis that belongs with that join, is on Search Truth (/docs/search-truth). Commercial overview: Search Truth (/features/search-truth).
How do you find terms a rival wins?
Open ranked keywords for the domain. Filter with brand exclude when brand queries drown the list. Use the subdomains toggle when the footprint is split. Keep the ranking URL so you know which page is doing the winning, not only that the domain "has" the term.
From there, compare to your own coverage, send gaps into Opportunities, or dig a single SERP when you need live layout context via rank tracking (/docs/rank-tracking) and related tools.
How the agent uses competitor data
The agent can shortlist gaps: terms or topics a rival wins that fit your project, pages that look like real threats, and what belongs in the Opportunities competitor lane or a plain Do Next list.
Ask who your real competitors are for a market, where the whitespace is, which rival pages to study first, and what not to chase because difficulty or fit is wrong. GEO/Visibility rivals also matter when AI answers are part of the fight: GEO (/docs/geo). Agent: the agent (/docs/the-agent). Opportunities: opportunities (/docs/opportunities).
